A Doll’s House, Part 2 is coming to Center Sandwich! When the door slammed shut at the end of Henrik Ibsen’s 1879 play, A Doll’s House, critics began referring to it as the slam heard around the world. Heated discussions about the role of wife, mother and the institution of marriage took center stage in late 19th Century European discourse. Some theaters would only produce it with an altered ending, but Ibsen called that a travesty and held to the original as central to the message of the play. Fast forward to 2017 and a young writer named Lucas Hnath (pronounced NATHE) begins to wonder what would happen if Nora returns to her family after 15 years away? A Doll’s House, Part 2 launched on Broadway to great critical acclaim with multiple Tony nominations and wins. Off the Dock Players, the Sandwich theater troupe who brought you A.R. Gurney’s, Love Letters, Bakersfield Mist, and Mother of the Groom is proud to present its fourth local production, A Doll’s House, Part 2, starring Rebecca Cole (Nora), Hank Offinger (Torvald), Lisa Lovett (Ann Marie) and Jacqueline Menken (Emmy). The play is directed by Nancy Blaine. “While in college I studied Ibsen,” says Nancy Blaine (Director). “I was suspicious of a young, modern man’s presumption in creating A Doll’s House, Part 2, but, after I saw the Broadway production directed by Sam Gold, I rose from my seat for a well-deserved standing ovation and said to my companion, ‘Author, Author.’” Rebecca Cole (Nora) said, “when I sat in that Broadway theater 2 years ago, watching Laurie Metcalf play Nora in A Doll’s House, Part 2, my pulse raced, my fingers tingled and I thought….’if I could play that role...I could die and go to heaven…happy!’" Come see the thought-provoking play at Town Hall, 8 Maple Street, Center Sandwich, NH. Showtimes are Friday, February 15th, Saturday, February 16th, Friday, February 22nd at 7:30 pm and on Sunday the 17th at 2:30 pm. Tickets are $18 in advance via the website: www.offthedockplayers.com or $20 at the door. On Saturday and Sunday February 23rd and 24TH, Off The Dock Players will team up with The Corner House Inn to present the show at 2:30 at Town Hall with a prix fixe dinner afterwards next door at The Corner House beginning at 4:30. The actors and crew will be on hand during dessert to discuss the show.
