Description
Join us for a delightful, interactive living history experience and take part in the unique history of the New England area. Hillsborough's 9th Annual Living History Event in Hillsborough, NH will be held on Saturday, August 19 and Sunday, August 20, 2017. This year's special guest is General and President Ulysses S. Grant portrayed by Sam Grant along with Mrs. Grant (Julie Marin Grant), who will give a sidesaddle demonstration. Venture on a fantastic trip throughout Hillsborough and discover the historic villages, the Hillsborough Heritage Museum, including the Manahan-Phelps-McCulloch Photo Collection and the DAR Collection. Tour NH Bureau of Historic Sites' President Franklin Pierce Homestead where he lived for the first thirty years of his life, and visit the cemetery where his parents are buried on the 2nd NH Turnpike. Enjoy scenic drives; take a horse-drawn wagon ride, or a self-guided stroll around the Old Historic Center. Take a scenic trolley tour of the National Landmark Civil Engineering award-winning stone arch bridges that make Hillsborough an historical treasure. There are only two award-winners in New Hampshire. Can you name the other? Interact with period artisans and the music of the 2nd South Carolina String Band, or follow a battle through the woods, watch the Cavalry charge, hear the cannons roar. Sutlers, crafters, and the blacksmith will be selling their wares, sew a flag with Betsy Ross, make butter and ice cream, pan for gold, use an old-fashioned laundry, press cider, sample some maple syrup, and more. We have over a dozen children and family hands-on activities. Feast on mouth-watering traditional foods, grilled chicken, pulled pork, Plowman’s Lunch, homemade muffins, cookies, pies, watermelon and more. Four Great Locations ~ Fantastic Fun for the Whole Family! Tickets still cover two full days for: Adults ~ $15.00, Seniors (65+) ~ $12.00, Children (6 – 17) ~ $5.00, and Children 5 & Under ~ FREE.
